- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆May 07, 2020, by Giselle FlawlessI wish I could give this store anything lower. First we bought a refurbished Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. My husband and I bought an extended warranty because although we have had great experiences with refurbished items, you can never be too careful. With that, we bought an extended warranty. Literally less than three months later, it stopped working. It would not cool or freeze foods. My whole kitchen floor was wet and I called for a serviceman. Service man arrived 2-3days later, was unable to fix the fridge and a "brand new" one was to be sent as replacement. I received a "brand new" fridge in about a week (this was around September/October of 2013. Fridge was purchased and delivered towards the end of June 2013). Fast forward to end of March 2014, my fridge stops working again. I called for a repair man on a Friday, I was told one would not be available until Monday. Pissed off I had no choice. I tried calling the Portage store and never got an answer. it would just ring, ring, ring, until a busy signal at the end. I ended up having to contact Sears directly ( I was told "luckily" I was still under the manufacturer's warranty. Well obviously! I havent even had the fridge up to a year!) The repair man arrives 03/31/2014 and advises me that I had a bad compressor and one had to be ordered in order to repair the fridge. The only catch is a compressor would not be delivered until Thursday 04/03/14. i'd then have to schedule an appointment in order to have it repaired. Bear in mind I am currently 7months pregnant and I have an 18month old toddler. I asked the rep am I supposed to continue eating out, or feeding my son oatmeal and hot dogs because I cannot cook (we already had to throw away bad food and what we could save we kept in the garage). I guess at this time sensing I was becoming more irate as this would be a whole week without a working fridge, I was advised by "Jasmin" at Sears resolution center that "Sears Outlets are individually owned. Unfortunately you would have to contact them for a sooner replacement." I advised "Jasmin" I was unable to contact the store via phone as they never answer and she stated she was having a hard time too and I'd just have to go to the store in person. Of course now all "professionalism" is out of the window as I have paid good money for this fridge and this was the second one that went out in less than a year. Eventually after no success, a replacement compressor was ordered. Jasmin advises me if no one answers I should drive all the way to Portage, IN as though gas and time are both free. 3hours later (Jasmin apparently attempted to contact the Portage, IN store via email but no response), I finally get a hold of someone at the outlet store. After relating to her all that I have had to deal with that day, nonchalantly, she states she would call me back in an hour as she attempted to find a resolution (this was the supposed manager of the store). 2hours later I get a call stating "we currently do not have any loaner refrigerators. The best I can do for you is see if the compressor can be delivered to you 04/01/14." Of course I am furious and I explain to her how inconvenient this was becoming (she probably had me on mute as she didnt seem to care). She maintained all she could do was expedite (the already expedited) the shipment of the compressor. I am still patiently waiting and attempting just requesting a full refund. I should have stuck with what I know...Home Depot. It truly isnt a surprise why so many Sears stores are shutting down. HORRIBLE customer service and appliances. If I could give a more negative rating, I truly would.
